Are you ready to send the kiddos back to school yet?

Isn't it funny how they always love the first week of school and then for many of them it goes down hill after that?

Hello! Kids have been back at school a couple of weeks now.

I'm struggling with something right now. J has made a friend with one of the boys several years older than him (they're both not your normal teenage boys, have similar interests and share a particular interest in tabletop wargames.

J has made hints about inviting the friend over. I'm not quite sure how to approach the subject with him. (I have never met this older boy at all, but he seems a nice enough kid from what J has said, just, like J, has some different interests to the norm).

Kylie

We start on the 18th, I think we're ready. I need a couple more uniform shirts but the company is supposed to be at Open House so I might just wait till that Friday before to pick up a few there. I need to get in the kids' closets and go through everything again. They might both need new shoes, I'm not sure how much they might've grown since they've really only worn flip flops for three months.

I'm on the PTF Board so it's already busy busy. Kinda already feels like school has started because I'm back in that mode - just no homework yet. I only wish we'd spent a lot more time reviewing multiplication tables this summer!!

The school messed up Linz's schedule so we need to make an appointment to get it fixed. She is scheduled for 2 classes the same period, another for one class she didn't sign up for, and they never scheduled her for spanish 2, something she did sign up for.

Kylie, if this is a nice kid a few years may not matter.

Roberta, thanks for starting the thread!

Yes, yes and yeeeeeeeeeeees!!! I will miss them, but ........ yipee.

Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but it seems like we have been together waaay to much this summer. I think because they're getting older and asserting themselves a little more than usual and it's getting on my nerves. OR I'm just starting menopause.

Becky has not received her schedule yet, but I know it's coming soon because she has the walk through on the 13th and 14th. Ds' day is the 11th.

Kylie - The vast majority of Ty's friends are at LEAST 2 or 3 years older than him. We've never had a problem with any of them. If the friend is a decent kid, respectful and all, and he and J get along well then there really shouldn't be a problem. After all once kids get out in the world they won't always be dealing with folks their same age anyway.

I'm not CLOSE to being ready for the kids to go back! We have a lot of things left to get, and I haven't been through Ethan or Aryn's closest yet to figure out what they need for heading back. I'm not too worried about Zoe til the weather get cooler. Then she might need some pants. Ty's pretty much ready as far as clothes goes, he's reading his required reading book and all that goes with that but I don't think he realizes the extensiveness of the notes he was to be taking.

Ty will get his schedule on the 11th so if any changes need to be made we'll have to look into those then. The younger three have registration on the 7th and looking forward to it since that's when they find out who their teachers are.

No news yet as to the job and when I called back this morning I had to leave ANOTHER message. Makes me wonder if the school secretary is even in the office this week. I'm going to set down and maybe send an e-mail to the principal and see if they've made a decision yet.

Got on a roll last night with a scrapbook page! I should be able to finish it today! Feels good to be creating again. I was going through a REALLY stagnate period as far as scrapping and creating were concerned. I just didn't have it in me to do much more then push paper and pictures around on my table. But it's returning - SLOWLY returning! And it FEELS GOOD!

I think Brian and I are going to either take the kiddos swimming or out to see a cheap seats movie today. Horton Hears a Who is playing at the $1 seats today!

Blessings,

Garsy

That sounds fun :)

Linz got her schedule like first part of june. I'm glad she didn't fret about it for very long.

Our kids start in Sept. But I am going to be sad to see summer end. Last year, I spent alot of my summer very depressed and pretty much wasted the precious time I could have spent with my kids. This summer has had its issues, but I have tried to do more with them. It was hard with the move, but we have had discussions on what to do with family night and where to fit one in with the crazy schedules that are about to hit us.

I am already looking forward to next summer, although I think that once they are all in school, I will get used to it pretty fast. All three of them go this year. I just got registration papers and of course the list of fees that go along with them for the girls, but nothing yet for Jake.

But the school supplies are bought, backpacks have been packed for about a week now. So I guess that means I am pretty well ready eventhough I might not think so.

We go back the 18th. Since it stays warm here until Sept. we will wait on back to school clothes until middle of Sept. or so. I will get new backpacks and some supplies as soon as I find out what they need.

I'm ready for them to go back only because they are bored and finding mischief to get into.

Well, how is everybody today. I have had a rather "down" day and got only one thing on my list done. Then we tried to get to church an it took us an hour just to get there because of construction. We were half an hour late, and with everything else that is going on, I just melted down. I was embarrassed because we were in church, but I felt that since we were in the front, and Saturday night has minimal people who I never see because our church day is usually Sunday, that it wasn't wo bad. I can just not go back on a Saturday for a while.

Anyway, my kid are great. I totally forgot that Kali had a birthday party today and she missed it. She cried for about an hour, but seemed to get over it rather well. Now my house is a mess and this is going to be a hectic week so I am sure that once it is over, I will feel much better. But as for school starting, I still want to keep my kids home with me. We still have alot I want to do together.

ah, poor Kali. I've done that before too. You just have a lot going on with the move and just getting back from vacation.

I'm making cookies. First I made my husband's favorites, then I made some ginger snaps, new recipe for me and the dough is still in the fridge cooling so it is easy to handle, and while that's cooling I'm making a different chocolate chip cookie recipe. My daughter just informed me that she doesn't like my favorite cookie recipe. :( She wants chewy, and I make a cake like cookie. I hope these are chewy enough but they don't look like they will be.

Well, I'm tired and will soon be getting ready for day six in a row of working. I am going for eight days (two different weeks so legal) straight without a day off. We were open until 11:00 last night and I closed, so I am so sleepy this morning.

My store was extremely busy with back to school shopping yesterday. It is only two weeks until the children will be back in their classrooms. I need to have a few minutes to get ds's school supplies, pe clothes, and shoes. We still aren't finding many insects, but, since it has been raining we are beginning to see a few more.

Hope you all have wonderful days today! I've got to get my family moving towards church. I work at 11:00 so no church for me until this evening.

Kathy,

I have this awesome snickerdoodle recipe that never ever fails me. The cookies come out awesome and evertyime I bake them, they are the first to go at any event. It is kind of weird really because they are just cookies. But I can share if you want to try it. They are yummy! Not cakelike, but not really chewy, but they are soft in the middle and a bit (tiny bit) crispy around the edges. And they are kind of thick if you use a cookie scoop to shape them.

If I knew they would live, I could send you some of mine. We only moved 4 blocks, but even the bugs are different here. I saw my first junebug yesterday and some spiders that I have never ever in my life seen before. Too bad they would die before they got there. LOL

Kath Can I come visit and steal Larry's gingersnaps? Nah I won't do that! It's too hot to do much baking here. and tomorrow is going to be worse! YUCK! I'll just have to be patient and pull out grandma's recipe and make my own gingersnaps when the weather is cooperating.

I think we are going to make a trip into Walgreen's today. Ethan needs a refill on his allergy meds and they have a few really good school supplies on sale too!

Blessings,

Garsy

I'd love to have the recipe! Thank you for offering :)

I hate June bugs. They scare me, they are so hard and fly right into my hair.

:) It's hot here too, suppose to be 102 today. I baked last night till midnight, so the sun was down and it didn't get too hot. We only have window a/c units, and the one for the main floor is just above the stove, so it didn't get hot in the rest of the house at all. I always shut it off when we go to bed since no one is down here.

Does your gingersnaps recipe take pepper? I didn't put it in but it calls for fourth of a tsp. The recipe had too much allspice in my opinion so if I ever make it again I'll cut it in half. I underbaked the first pan so they are not snappy, but still pretty good.

Hi Julia! Bummer about having to work so many days straight. I haven't even started getting Linz ready for school yet.

I didn't even make it to church this morning. I did something to my back last night and I could hardly move, it was just spasming something fierce. I barely made it up the stairs to bed. I took a pain pill and a muscle relaxer and it isn't much improved today but it is better. I am going to go soak in the tub and take another muscle relaxer. I hope I don't have to go to the chiropractor, it's a 30 mile trip and it's going to be 98*tomorrow. We don't have a very good a/c unit in the car.

Awesome snickerdoodles.

1/2 cup margarine
1 3/4 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2- 1 teaspoon vanilla (I lean toward more vanilla but add it til it smells good)
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter

mix 2 Tablespoons of sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (I use more cinnamon) for sprinkling over the cookies before you bake them.

Preheat oven to 375. Then beat margarine sugar and egg. Add vanilla, baking soda and cream of tarter. Mix in flour.

Use a medium cookie scoop and scoop out cookies onto a greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar (I use alot for when they spread out) and bake for 10 to 11 minutes.

The cookies do spread out, but they should stay smaller and thicker. They are so very very yummy and will stay soft for days. If you try them let me know how they work out for you. Oh, and this recipe doesn't make many cookies. Maybe 3 dz depending on your cookie scoop. But that is easier than rolling them into balls and then rolling them in the sugar mix. My cookie scoop is the medium one from pampered chef just to give you an idea of size. Happy Baking!

Today was a rough day. It was one of those days where you get alot done, but it doesn't seem like it. My house is still a mess, but the patio furniture is on the deck and all of the edging on one side of the house is done. Now we have the other side to go. Tomorrow, we are taking the train to Chicago to go visit my husband's son for his birthday. He is going to join us after work since he works near there. Then Tuesday we will drive home together. Then they are going to come by us on Wednesday and stay for two nights. Kali has a pom competition on Thursday morning at our State Fair so I hope her team does well. It is her first competition. Everything else has been preforming. Then Saturday, my husband wants to take Jake rafting on the Peshtigo river and I am not a big fan of it, but I am not letting my boy in his own raft on a river without me there. So wish me luck there. Hopefully the water will be low and we won't have to go.

So I am very much looking forward to two weekends from now where I have NOTHING to do so far. Oh and I got registration papers for both my girls for school. Now I just have to get Jake's.

I will make them but it probably won't be for a month, I usually only bake once a month or so. I did copy your recipe out, including your avatar so I'll remember you even years from now :) and I'll let you know.

Of course Jake is looking forward to it. He gets to wear a wetsuit (gross to me since they are borrowed) and a helmet, AND he gets to have his own raft and go down the rapids. I guess the biggest drop is only 10 feet, but I am sure I'm not going to like it. But it has been like 11 years that my husband has been trying to get me to go so I guess I have already done a good enough job putting it off.

I don't bake in the summer at all, but when school starts, I love to bake. Especially on cold nights when we need to make the house feel warm. You will love them.

Mrs. Tracy...Please don't send us any spiders. Ugh... DH and ds found a store that had a butterfly net today...they were both very happy.

Kath..How's your back feeling? I hope that it has settled down.

No pepper in my gingersnaps. This is my Grandma's recipe and I will use NO other. Nice chewy gingersnaps. I do always add just a touch more ginger and a tad more cinnamon then Grandma did tho.

Okay I feel like a bad neighbor tonight. I got a call from a neighbor kid who is a friend of Ty's this morning asking if I had plans for tomorrow morning, because he was invited to a sleep over at a friend's house but he could only go if he could find somewhere for his little brother, one of Ethan's friends to hang out overnight because BOTH Mom and Dad have to be out of the house by 5 AM to go to work. I told him that I had plans, which I did, but then later I just decided to go and take care of one of my errands this afternoon and the other errand I was planning on taking care of tomorrow can wait. But then I thought about it. I'm just really not in the mood to have kids sleeping over at my house right now. That's the primary reason I didn't adjust the plans to help the kids out. Is that bad of me? I also didn't let my kids have ice cream bars after supper because I asked that the table be cleaned off and when I came back in the house after setting up the sprinklers on the garden it wasn't done and no one was even making an attempt to do it. So I took care of it. Then when Aryn and Zoe came in asking for ice cream I said no.

I'll bag up all that ants we've got around here and ship them off to you Julia!!! I would LOVE to get rid of them!

Garsy
