I just finished reading this book a couple days ago. I found it to be very encouraging. What are your thoughts about this book? Has anyone read any of Richard Wurmbrand's other books?

I used to LIVE in books like this because of my interest in Missions and the Persecuted Church. This book helped cement the importance of the Bible in my life, because here were people who were willing to die to read it. Can't comment on any of his other books because I haven't read any.

I never heard of that book, but not only did I read "Jesus Freaks" but I lent it out to an almost perfect stranger over a community blog in my city. It turns out that he goes to my old church and so I gave the book to my aunt who gave it to him. Waiting for him to return it, but I know how to find him. He did say it was a good book.

If your in the mood to read about Christians that will inspire you and at the same time rip your heart out...read 'extreme devotion' by voice of the martyrs. John

I read "Tortured for Christ" long ago and remember that it was encouraging and inspiring, but not the details.

I just got a free copy of this book from the Voice of the Martyrs. First off, what a great writer Richard is. It is a very easy to read book, although some of the subject matter is disturbing as to what Christians in Communists countries go thru. It really puts the Bible into perspective when we hear that Peter, Paul and Silas were jailed. Honestly I never thought about what they endured while they were jailed and in my wildest horrors I cannot believe what people today endure in jail simply because they love Jesus. I am not sure my faith could endure such torture...but I guess that is where the Holy Spirit comes into the factor. Not only do these people endure the torture, but they still love the torturers. it also really makes me realize how truly evil satan is. Not only does he torture the Christians, but he does not allow them to die, but he brings them back enough to health just to retorture them all over again. The author went thru over 8 years of this. I struggle with fasting for a day. The book noted the importance of the western Christians to pray for these beautiful Martyrs and to donate. The chapter I just read noted how the people in communist countries put their lives constantly on the line to spread the Good News to all people and how the western Christians, who freely can do so, do not. How convicting and how true! It is definately an adult Christian book. But it is also a wake up jolt of just how complacent alot of western Christians truly are. And how the sacrifices that Peter, Paul and other apostles made are still being made in the 21st century. I strongly recommend this book.
