Hate to bug you with depressing qualms about BarlowGirl, but this question is to prove the minds of th as to those who may have an inkling as to why our Girls have had such a mediocre track record on Billboard's misnomered "Hot" Christian Songs chart. From what I can recall, "Enough," the old Chris Tomlin tune, hit No. 7 in '06, for their only top 10.
A band like this should, by now, have had a bigger impact on CCM radio -- not that the secular Bangles and Go-Go's were the world's most prolific bands either. I mean, come on, "Million Voices" didn't even make top 20 on Billboard???
Not that I'm SOOO concerned, just curious. After all, my family has told me to not get too obsessed over BG.
And a side question: how come we never really hear the exact chart history of bands like BG??

My thoughts:
#1: Why must you start so many BG threads all the time?
#2: You are obsessed.
#3: They are not that good/talanted, or all that (or even much of that). They seem like nice girls, but that's as far as I'll go. Do you think they would have gotten as much exposure as they did without Superchic[k]? Doubt it.

I believe that you are obsessed with Barlow Girl and you need to call Dr. Phil. Whether they chart or not is not the issue. If they are glorifying God with their music, who cares if it charts? It is all about ministry.

Hey, don't be making this such an ugly thing. I know I am obsessed and I am working on it. Ever heard of Asperger Syndrome? Bipolar disorder? My friend, you think this is bad?? Try having an anxiety attack in front of 75,000 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida amidst a Miami-Oakland NFL game so bad Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue had to be called in. BUT I AM DEALING WITH IT. I just love BarlowGirl because when it comes to situations like that, I can rely on their music, and God's love for me, to get me through it. Friend, lithium and clonazepam only gets you so far...faith and music can carry you the rest of the way.
So, instead of criticizing folks like me who only want change in Christian music from the SAME OLD SAME OLD, sympathize with those of us who have it harder..."harder than the first time" as someone once said. CCM's messed up. Just look at the ad banner for "guitar praise" or whatever that game is...it's the same old artists over and over.
I have stopped listening to Christian music because of this. It's become boring and hackneyed. I don't even look at their charts anymore, the same 10 artists every week? Please! Where's Rihanna?? I'd rather listen to pop or rap. Now, BG is the only Xtian band I'm really listening to and only as a "rock" band...not Christian. I will always believe in the faith angle, but the music's what I'm really after now. Forget Skillet or Casting Crowns. If my heart's not in it, I won't listen to it. No talent?? Go sit at the front of a BG concert stage and find out. You're not swaying me away from being a BG fan, mister!!

musicboss: Where's Superchic(k)'s top 40 pop album?? I believe "Silent" was , um, the first by an all-girl rock band in 18 YEARS to make the top 40!

No one is making anything ugly. You asked a question, and got an answer. It's great that you have a Christian singer (group) that you like, and feel that you can connect with. I didn't say "no talent", I said "not all that". I'm not trying to sway you one way or another. I stated my opinion. I really have no interest in top 40 stats. When I brought up Superchic[k], it was to state that BG would prob. have not gotten as much exposure if not for
Superchic[k].

Yeah, but MB11...consider that the Girls were on their way to making their own music. "Barlow Girls" was a song that the 'Chick wrote because they were impressed w/the Barlows' stand for purity...who does that??? It was an AWESOME gesture from the Sibs' fellow Chi-Town rockers that happened to lead kids to their own purity decisions, they even called themselves BarlowGirls ("More Than Music", "The People That You Meet" chapter). So I kind of agree with you, musicboss, it's just that I think that Superchick's song HELPED BG's fame.
Ironically, BG is to my knowledge, more well known than SC ...but that's just from my gut feeling and I don't want to turn it into a rivalry or contest. Remember: the Barlz and the 'Chick folks are kinda BFF's now...boy, I'd love to see them tour together!

A short reply for redeemedsaint: BarlowGirl has been my fave act for less than a year, but my fave band for three. I am still not used to the fact that they are so "different" even from the rest of CCM bands in that they care less about "earthly" success than others. Is that holding them back from say, Casting Crowns?? Who cares...I don't listen to bands like them or newsboys anyway, because I love the music but find something "fishy" about them being so commercially successful. I only listen to those whom I feel right about, so BG fits the bill...they're a classic "power-trio" lineup of guitar, bass and drums and those have always appealed to me (much like they did to Vince Barlow, their dad, and look at him...the father of an all-girl power trio!). And, I've always been a HUGE all-girl band fan, Bangles, Go-Go's, Antigone Rising, Donnas, Dixie Chicks (the only AGB in the mainstream who can stack up w/BarlowGirl in being outspoken and believing in something these days)...you name it!
But thanks for reminding me about seeking help. I don't need Dr. Phil McGraw. Himself a devout Christian, but I have another Dr. looking over me here in Coral Gables helping me manage my bipolar/Asperger issues. I have the Girls' music to get me through the rough times, Doves, top 10's or not. Then, there's my family. And my secular music...could go on and on.
And ultimately, there's the supreme Physician Himself, Jesus Christ.
More than enough. But I would still insist, BarlowGirl having top-10 hits and Doves would be even more fun. I'm still having a blast as a fan and hope to do it for a long time to come!!

If I were a member of BarlowGirl and read some of these posts, I'd be hiring some extra security. It really is kinda creepy, dude.
Hey, I'm a big fan of the group NewSong, another underrated CCM act, but I don't feel the great need to post umpteen messages bemoaning it.
Maybe a one-stop Barlow Girl thread is in order here....

You know why so many posts?? Cause nobody seems to care about them here...I feel like I have to carry the flag for them. I know this is not SoundPost, but I wish you CCMMagazine.com folks were more supportive of me, kind of like the person on SP who said that I was doing a great job spreading the word on BG.
so, just when I thought SP was conservative, you guys give me all this business. That's the problem with CC music...you guys don't want to change it, and then you give me an attitude about it.
Guys, just don't be so negative with me. I told you I have my problems I'm dealing with...try to be supportive, that is what we Christians are here for....ever heard of 1 Thessalonians 5:11??

I just don't think BarlowGirl should be not heard about. If they're in CCM, they deserve a voice. I know about my obsession and I'm dealing with it. BG hasn't had to order extra security...I have met them three times this year and they're cool every time. And remember this is all a new experience for me. I was a Christina Aguilera fan who suddenly became a BG fan for God knows what reason. Why, I'm just not going to question but you can be sure that the day security becomes an issue, that day I will renounce my fanhood.
So, just don't be so negative towards me...I'm just trying to rep my band like anyone else. I already said the top-10 thing isn't the be-all-and-end-all; it would just be fun if they had some.
Just like NewSong...they've had over 20 No. 1 hits, tafkam. I know. I was at the WinterJam. So think about that. Don't complain about me, please...your guys have 20 no. 1's, my gals have 0.

Why do you feel you need to "carry a flag"? It is what it is.
Elvis Costello is probably one of the most talented songwriter/musicians I can think of, yet chart success eluded him. Oh well. I still love to listen to him.
If you enjoy them, that's all that matters, right? Why does everyone have to enjoy them?
For the record: Never heard them and don't really care one way or the other.
But, since you mentioned it... yeah, all these thread on the Barlow Girls is pretty weird.

why do you always have to post about them. if you are a fan, great. don't try to push them down the throats of people who are not that big a fan. kinda like pushy Christians, you will cause people to not listen to them. jeez, get over it.
what is the big deal with them anyways.
something in your sig bothers me. they save you or did Jesus. "Jesus said no man cometh to the Father except by Me". not Barlowgirl or any other band.
I have singers and bands i listen to, some more than others, but i don't stress over them. start one thread about them and keep your posts in that thread. sheesh.

OK, but what about those people whose lives were saved by the cars they drive (Volvo, anyone?), or anyone who was saved by a stranger from being run over as they crossed the street?? What makes BG so different? Does this have to do w/the other thread, the one with Bentley and Meyer and questionable affiliations?
And I thought SP was negative...no, CCMMAG.com is!!!

cars saving someones life is not how that is being put out by you or from what i have read. wearing a seat belt or driving safe comes from choice.
i am in the army and more than once a soldier has saved my life. i am just wondering, how did they personally save your life? if they did, please testify about it and give praise to the Lord not a band. I am pretty sure those three girls would rather you praise the Lord with that and not them. if they want you to praise them, then i say lets pray for their walk because that is dangerously close to touching ten commandments. *not taking this theological so mods please dont move the thread or post*
i am not jumping down your neck or preaching, if it seems am then will stop. i am not a preacher just a singer in a Gospel group.
