I dont care for artifical nails. The ones I have are never long, they break off to east at work usually. Now I do like clear finger nail polish..just gives you a shine. I prefer painting my toe nails though...usually a shade of pink. :)

I keep mine quite short ... mostly because I've been known to scratch the baby if they get too long, and I've always hated the 'clicky' sound of nails when I play the piano.

I don't use anything to make my nails longer (i.e. 'tips') but I do have the UV Gel (that nail salons often put over nail tips to create the long 'fake nail' look) put on top of my own nails to prevent breaking and spliting. I don't know if you'd say that makes my nails 'fake' or not. I do like having long (in my opinion, not long like eagle talons) nails and it's the one thing I truly do just for me...to go get them done every couple of weeks. It makes me feel lady-like and feeling that way translates to me feeling more beautiful for my spouse...and a large amount of a woman's attractiveness comes from her self-confidence.

I have to have short fingernails because I play guitar (among other things) and fretting with long fingernails is next to impossible. Plus, I'm klutzy and am liable to scratch myself or others. Not to mention how bad it hurts to accidently get one ripped off. Guitar strings chip polish. So I don't bother with it.

Long nail? I've tried growing them but they break. So they're just slightly over the nail bed, but not longer than my finger tips. Easier for me to maintain and keep them clean.

My nails grow really fast and I'm always having to cut them. They probably about 1/3 of an inch past my finger tips. They usually grow to about 1/2 inch, then something happens and one or two of them break. So then I cut them off and start all over again. In two to three weeks, they are a 1/3 of an inch past my fingertips again. I wish my hair grew that fast (sigh).

I have really short nails. I play the violin and the viola, so having long nails is a no-no, because they get in the way. Even if I didn't play an instrument, my nails would still be short, because I tend to bite them when I'm nervous or stressed out. I sometimes put clear polish on my nails to stop myself from biting them, but I don't like the look of coloured polish on me, it tends to look funny on my small hands.

Mine are a tad longer than "active," but don't qualify as long. One of my "deals" is that all my nails have to be alike, so when one breaks, I file them all down. I keep my square with softened corners and buff them occasionally. Fingernail polish nor remover is good for your nails and skin, so I stay away. My nails are much stronger now that I don't use polish ever.

Sorry if bringing back an old thread is bad. quote:
ORIGINAL: crh737 On the other hand, growing up I was more tomboyish and my older sister use to grow these *weapons* on her fingertips, and I mean these things were long. However me, being the tomboy, showed her how unhealthy they were when we got into it and I tore them off her fingers. Oh in case your wondering, when they do break like that, they break below the intended line. (Yes I was a mean spirited child.) CRH I wonder why so many women seem to be against long nails. I'm a guy and I think women who wear them look very attractive, although the real beauty comes from knowing and having a true and strong relationship with the Lord. That's why, though I naturally find them extremely attractive and beautiful, I try to always remember first what 1 Peter says about beauty in females: "Your adornment must not be merely external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:3-4) I understand that long nails could get in the way of things, but I think it also depends on how much the person is willing to make the effort to try. My sister tried wearing the press-on nails you can buy at a grocery store for a while, and while she liked the way they looked, she seemed and still seems to like her plain, normal nails just as much. The major reason she stopped though was that they got in the way for her, in fact she sounds almost exactly like phosadaud's post. She rarely wore them and when she did it'd be for a very short time, often only maybe a few hours, and they'd be gone in a moment. Granted, she plays piano, but she even admitted it's just too hard for her to do all of the things she does while wearing them. Yet, there are people in this world who have long nails and still manage to accomplish plenty of things. I know some people feel against false nails since they believe it's shameful to try to cover or enhance what God naturally gave them. I can respect that, but I honestly think it comes down to conviction. I've had a natural attraction to false nails from as long ago as I can recall. I believe that's a God given trait, just like some may love the look of short, normal nails, and there are some who just don't care either. Even if I am completely in disagreement with someone on the issue though, I can attempt to respect and accept their side, but what I can't respect is when people make it out to be like it's evil, or that only preppy and sleazy people wear them, etc. Long story short, I believe it just comes down to what one feels from God, and how God has made the said person. God bless! :-)

I like to grow them in a normal way, then I cut them and keep them filed. Their is really no point . Besides, it is not healthy as they accumulate all sorts of germs and most of us use our hands a lot; so it's not a practical thing to let them grow too long.

Mine tend to reach the tip of my finger and then split. In college, my roommate and I would paint our nails at least once a week and I would peel the polish completely off by noon the next day. Colored nails tend to distract me for some reason and I have always thought my colored nails looked like the nails of Frankenstein. I prefer the natural look of my nails...they have pink beds with bright white tips.

I keep mine well trimmed. I don't like stuff getting under them if I do grow them out. I'm clumsy so I fear I'm going rip off my nails or scratch my kids with them. If they get too long (0.5 cm over my finger) they get in the way of typing,...and I also play guitar and I can't finger the chords with long nails. I use my hands/fingers too much to have long nails.

Hey! I don't pain my fingernails. I used to when I was 10 though! Haha. But that really doesn't matter. But I do let them grow long, but I don't file them like most women do. Probably because I already have a nice shape to them already!

Ouch, I never thought of that one before!

My younger sister has those weapons on her finger tips as well. I don't. I'm a pianist and I have to keep them trimmed short, otherwise I'll spear through the keys. Or something.
