I wonder when we'll see it on this side of the pond.

You'd think with all the technology, we'd be able to share one little show like Dr. Who.

The "Christmas Special" aka "The Next Doctor" is finally airing in the US on BBC America this Saturday @ 9pm Eastern Time (not to be confused with the REAL NEXT DOCTOR, because the regeneration hasn't aired in the UK yet). Future specials and episodes of Doctor Who will air on BBC America in the US.

"Planet of the Dead" is airing in July.

Airing dates for the remaining specials will be announced at some point after they air in the UK. Hopefully BBC America will get on a schedule for Doctor Who similar to their quick airing of Torchwood after the UK air date.

Agreed... I hope it is like that (especially with the Torchwood mini-series next month) as opposed to BBC America pulling series 2 of Ashes to Ashes a week before airing. Perhaps they were waiting for the series to conclude across the way before showing us. Anyway, bring on the Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead, and hopefully soon after Thanksgiving the 3rd special after the BBC airing... Allons-y!

I enjoyed "The Next Doctor" more than I thought I would.

Nice nod to all the previous Doctors!

Oh, and it looks like BBC-America is going HD during July, with the next Doctor special having been filmed in HD, and the Torchwood miniseries, and another series whose name escapes me now. I hope FIOS will carry the HD version.

I liked the one we watched Saturday - seemed like a Christmas special though.

And the previews for Torchwood, subtitle Children something-or-other, mini-series were great.

So...when will the episode with all the previous doctors air in the US?

That episode is a 15-minute special for Children in Need which will be on TV in mid-November, so you may never see it on tv, but the chances are, it'll be on youtube! I'm sure that we'll be able to post a link for you!

So...for us over here, until they film the new doctor...and then perhaps even a year later before we will get the new series?

bummer

There are some specials (with DT) yet to be shown. You've only just seen the 'Christmas' special. You haven't seen 'The Planet of the Dead' yet have you? I'm not sure if there's another 2 or 3 specials after that.

I don't think so .

The one I saw had the poor guy who thought he was the Doctor as a result of the trauma of losing his wife and son.

I'll have to keep checking for new ones then.

Hi,

You can also watch "Planet of the Dead" today by typing the name into YouTube. The entire episode has been posted ever since it aired in England. I have been watching the series that way. Sometimes the quality is not too great.

LOL, they played like a thousand commercials announcing it during "The Next Doctor." They were the commercials promoting BBC-America HD. They mentioned the upcoming Torchwood miniseries, the next Doctor Who special and a series called Being Human. I can't remember if all three were airing in July, but at the very least the first two are. And they did mention that more Doctor Who specials are coming later in the year.

Oops...we recorded it and fast forwarded during commercial breaks.

LOL Doinkdom ~ that's what I do with most things on commercial channels! We don't have commercials on BBC.

I had to look up 'Being Human' because I hadn't heard of it and wondered what it had to do with 'Dr Who'. It doesn't ~ but it was set in a city about 40 miles away from me!

Doctor Who fans have been given their first look at the new costume being worn by Matt Smith, the 11th actor to play the role.
He's gonna be wearing a dickie bow!

The bow tie is very Bill Nye the Science Guy.

I guess they were trying to go for something new in the costume department. After 10 previous incarnations, it must be a challenge!

I've seen a lot of publicity on web sites in the US this week, which continues the trend of increased publicity for Doctor Who in the US.

One interview I saw recently addressed the belief that Torchwood has done better in the US ratings than Doctor Who. Apparently...not. Torchwood got a lot of publicity in the beginning (likely for the more sensationalist aspects of the show), but apparently Doctor Who did fairly well at SciFi in the ratings, better than Torchwood on BBC-America. That makes me wonder if SyFy management had any choice about keeping Doctor Who - I had always assumed they did, and chose not to.

Another bit that I saw this week...guess who is widely rumored to be up for the role of Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit film?
