Embarrassing Mommy moments ... you know you've had them! We have so much to balance that sometimes one of the balls we're juggling comes crashing down. I thought it might be fun to share some of our more cheek-reddening mishaps.

When my girls were 2 and 6, My husband and I were going away overnight. The baby was going to Grandma's house, and our older daughter was spending the night with our very close friends and their little girl. So, I got their little bags all carefully packed and each child dropped off at the right house. Later, I found that I had given the wrong bag to the girls and neither had clothes that fit them Thankfully, Mom and my friend knew each other well and knew where the other child would be and made the bag swap.

It's very much not like me not to be disorganized, especially with the kids, so I have never lived that one down

My 3 yr. old chatters all the time, and about half the time it's just jibbery nonsense, the other half he actually speaks pretty well.

We went to the library a few weeks ago and he was jibbering away. As we were checking out, he looked at the librarian and said as plain as day and out of the blue -- "I'm a dirty boy".

She just laughed and said "oh, my, you are?"

My husband was quick to realize that he had heard that on a Spongebob Squarepants movie he had checked out from the library. The librarian got a kick out of it.

This happened when my dd was about 9 months old (14 yrs ago)

I parked my car in the street, outside the Christian Bookshop where I wanted to go - and for some unknown reason, handed my car keys for my dd to play with, shut the car door with the handle up (which locked it) - in other words my car was locked, with my dd inside it with the keys.

I first called the police, who said they didn't do that sort of thing (break in) anymore, because of the risk of being sued for causing damage , phoned the AA - a breakdown service - who said they'd be there in 90 mins , and in the end phoned a locksmith who arrived in 10 mins, broke in for me surprisingly easily and causing no damage - and presented me with a bill for £30 - which is $60

Btw, my dd was totally unfazed by any of this and was quite happily playing with the keys and chattering to herself the whole time, lol.

I did something like that when DD1 was just a couple weeks old. I had stopped at McD's on the way to my postpartum check up. I put my lunch on the front seat and tossed my purse in and locked the door. THen walked around to put DD's carseat in the base and locked her in.

Fortunately my husband worked in the same town and was able to open the door. However, he was running errands for work so someone at his office was calling all the places he went to see if he had been there yet.

Does it have to be mom's fault?

We were in Seattle on vacation. Our son was 3 and I was pregnant with child #2. While wandering through the Museum of Flight, we split up for a bit--I went one way, and dad took son another way. As I'm wandering around, I hear an alarm going off, and I turn to see that the glass elevator is stuck between two floors--and SHOCK--there's my son on it all alone!!!!!!

Where is Mr. Cranky? Not in sight.

I run across the museum floor to the elevator, and then find Mr. Cranky still wandering around engrossed in reading the descriptions of planes. Then he notices our son in the glass elevator, and all the commotion.

Our son was crying and frantically pushing all the buttons. A worker was standing on the second floor patiently yelling at him which button to push, but a frantic 3-yr-old gets a bit confused of course. So much pressure!

Bravely, he finally understood what the man was trying to tell him, and pushed the right button which brought him to second floor and stopped the alarm.

Funny to remember! But embarrassing at the time.

Edit--I guess this post doesn't really fit this: We have so much to balance that sometimes one of the balls we're juggling comes crashing down. But I'll keep it here anyway.

crankius!! oh, my goodness!!!

Anyone heard of the Peabody Hotels / Peabody Ducks?

It's an upscale hotel, with a large fountain in the lobby. There are legendary ducks that swim in the fountain pond, and they march in every morning on the red carpet with a concierge and march into the pond, then march out every evening. It's a big spectacle and a crowd always gathers around.

I was standing by watching the "ceremony" with both kiddos (2 and 7 months at the time). Hubby was in a conference. All the sudden, Isaac slipped away from me and disappeared into the crowd of people, and before I can get to him, the concierge lifts up a rubber ducky and calls out "Does this belong to anyone?" Isaac had run up and thrown his gift-shop-souvenier rubber duck into the fountain in the middle of the show! Of course I had to go claim my son and the rubber duck. So embarrassing.

But they were very gracious and thought it was funny, and even got us a new ducky.

This one is not for the faint of heart.

I was waiting in line at the gas station, wanting to pay for my stuff. An elderly woman was in front of me, asking for directions and the clerk was chatting up a storm as she helped her with the map. I was getting ticked because of the wait, not to mention that I was sure this woman had passed some really bad gas as she leaned over the counter - it smelled is if she were sick, and I was getting grossed out. After a few minutes of them chattering, I finally spoke up and said "Can I pay for this so I can leave"?

As I left, I realized that the sickening odor was coming from my son (who was about 1 and a half at the time), who had just *REALLY* blown out his diaper, dripping on the floor b/c he was wearing shorts.

That happened to me too!

My dd was potty-trained-but-under-surveillance, and we had just ordered at McD's when she had a urine and diherrea combination event right on the floor, through her panties. It was green and foul and it just kept coming and coming!

OH MORTIFYING!!!

I couldn't do anything but stand and stare. I managed to say sorry, that they'd need a mop and ran with her to the washroom. I actually threw out her panties & shorts rather than try and deal with them. We had lunch in a diaper. Quickly.

We had a similar experience in a mall. Noah was potty trained but under surveillance, as pbari said. He had a diarrhea explosion and dripped it all the way to the bathroom, where I realized that we had not even brought his extra clothes in. The mall was closing, and my husband went out to get the clothes from the car while I attempted to bath my 3 year old in a tiny sink. Brian got locked out of the mall and had to bang on the door and beg for security to let him back in.

A friend of mine went shopping with me and my kids. We were at Sam's Club and it took a while. She was pushing a cart with two of my kids in the front of it, and one of them peed on her feet. She hasn't gone shopping with me since then.

Other embarassing moments involve more than one occasion when we were at a mall or grocery store, and the kids would see a very obese person (when they were 3-4 years old). I think only once they actually said something out loud before I could stop them.

One woman in a wheelchair and on oxygen scared my son to death when he was about 7 or 8 when she told him (in her deep cigarette voice) that he'd better not start smoking or he might end up like her. More amusing to me than embarrasing, but I thought it tied in to the stories here!

Now, Dear . . . remember when we're with someone, it's not polite to pee on them.

My son did this.

We were queuing for a cashier in the bank, things were very quiet, and my ds (aged 3) piped up with "Mummy, is that lady fat?"

I knew if I didn't react, he'd ask louder, but I also didn't want to look around and see if I could see who he meant, nor did I want to ask him who he meant.

I went for the evasive cowardly response: "I don't know, sweetheart" - and thankfully he left it at that.

LOL! It really never occured to me to tell them not pee on someone else.

Although, I am not sure that it would have made much difference. Maybe I should have made m kids wear "Caution: Potty training in session" Shirts.

My son did this to me just this past week. I could have died. His little brother started saying "humpty dumpty" when he saw a very large man, and Asrat yells loudly "Where's humpty dumpty??? Oh, there he is!!" and points at the large man shrieking with hysterical laughter. Oh, for a hole in the earth to sink into. I gave him a very serious lecture through the rest of the store, about how hurtful that was. I was hoping the man would leave by the time we were finished, but when we got to the cashier, there he was. As mortified as I was, it was good because it gave Asrat a chance to apologize. The man was very gracious and shook hands with him.

Something must be up with him this week. His self-control is out the window and he actually had a foot-stomping, screaming (but thankfully shortlived) temper tantrum today. Of course that was in public too.

When DS was two and I was pregnant with #2 I was in a public restroom and had him in the stall with me. Since I was late in the pregnancy I was using panty liners for those lovely little coughing and sneezes "gifts" your bladder provides. DS happened to catch a glimpse and loudly, way too loudly, states "you wear a diaper, too, Mama?!" Luckily I only heard snickering from one other stall, the others were mercifully empty.

I don't think that's WHY she hasn't gone shopping with you since, though I do think she might push her OWN kids if she goes with you again.

When my son was only about four we went to visit a friend that I hadn't seen in a long time. She had a son his age and we had never met each other's kids before. We walked in and her house smelled a little musty, not horrible, just a little noticeable... He wrinkled up his nose and said, "It smells funny in here!" Yeah, I was pretty humiliated!! Luckily my friend just said, "Don't they just make ya proud?"
