Apparently she's the daughter of a coulpe of pastors who recorded a couple of risque songs.

I have heard the stupid song... Controversy somehow prints money? I don't get it... I'm sure she will make a mint, her record comany will make a mint then in about 4 years she will be gone, much like M & M. (Yes I know it is Eminem.)

I read about this yesterday ... kinda hilarious, I had no idea she used to be a christian singer.

Interestingly enough most people I know (who are not christians by the way) consider that to be a really disgusting song, including people who they themselves are bi.

I don't know who she is, and wasn't familiar with her former Christian music career. Apparently, it didn't do well. lol

Nobody on Red Hill Records did well because Red Hill Records didn't have the promotional muscle, and it soon folded, leaving many artists like Katy Hudson and Echoing Green stranded. There was about 2 or 3 months worth of hype surrounding Katy, where she landed on the cover of Christian magazines 7Ball, Release, etc. Two years later (2003), Katy happened to get involved with the superstar production duo, The Matrix which, combined with her already rebellious personality (which was quite evident in interviews with Christian press), probably contributed to the allure of the secular music realm.

Be careful of who you associate. That's a lesson here. The other key is how the 1,000 pound gorilla of the industry has been setting the rules and Miss Hudson found her controversy after attaching herself with that gorilla.

She reminds me of what happened with Brazilian race car drivers surnamed "da Silva" and "Soutomaior" -- in each case (like Katheryn Hudson) used their mother's maiden name to success.

The sad thing is people are hooked to these songs. What gives?

I've heard the song once. It's mindless pop with matching lyrics.
Katy has chosen whom she will serve.
Sad but true.
Pray for her. She's going to need it.

Oh my, I can't get this song out of my head. And I don't listen to secular radio or watch secular music television, yet I still keep hearing it! Why did it have to have such a catchy beat?

I never heard of her as a Christian artist, but she doesn't do the music I listen to. I think it's unfortunate that everywhere you see her marketed, they make mention of the fact that she is the daughter of pastors and used to be a Christian artist. Yet, they never mention how her parents feel about this, or why she chose to make secular music, especially of this nature.

Goes to show that even for Christians, and those in leadership (or family of leadership) fame and money are more important.

(Apparently her next single is somewhat controversial as well.)

i saw this woman at vans warped tour this yr- i was chaperoning my stepdaughter and a couple other teen girls to vans warped.

i was just chaperoning by being on the premises - they could run around and see the bands they wanted to see, and i could find bands i wanted to see, while i would be within arm's reach by cell phone (or - curiously - I was the ONLY person at this texas concert with a cowboy hat on, even though the weather was very sunny and hot -- so they could pick me out in the crowd by looking for the straw cowboy hat).

i ended up watching this woman perform a few songs.

she followed a british ska band i enjoyed. i could tell the appeal - the brash, smart lyrics, although i could not hear too well all the time - plus she acted flirty or whatever. Overall, I did not think she sounded that great. Maybe in the studio. the 'rock' was basic, so-so.

when this song hit the news i nthe last few days, at first I did not realize I had already seen her perform. I thought that people were for some reason talking about the song about 'i kissed a girl' that is several years old. i don't know who did that one - kind of a more emo, folk type song than a rock song.

the same-sex community is upset with katy because the song minimizes the act - it kind of says that kissing the girl was no big deal, just a lark.
in contrast, the other, older song is more heartfelt discovery-type theme - so the same lyrics, and the tone is what is objectionable the the same-sex community, i guess. so if an opposite-sex person kisses a person of the same sex, but just on a lark, and it doesn't really mean anything, then that is bad. OK, got it.

I saw her unfortunately on my favorite summer show, So You Think You Can Dance. It's creating a fascination with lesbianism. It's already rampant in my community of girls looking like guys. We need to really pray for this generation and the sad thing is that her pastor parents allow her to do this stuff. Too many fallen by the wayside...Britney, Jessica Simpson...the list goes on....

I'll submit to you that yeah, it's sad she has taken this direction in her life but there is an age of accountablility here that I don't think her parents are in much of a position to stop it. This young lady is an "adult" whatever your definition of the word adult may be.

That is true. I just hope that she was "trained in the way she should go". It saddens me that when folk don't make the cut in Christian music, they go the secular route and vice versa.

Actually the goal is to be a secular superstar. That's what most artists aspire, and record labels want artists to so big-time secular.

Wow, Fox News is having a moral outrage about a "former Christian" singer being salacious and swinging the other way. Funny to hear that coming from a network that has such morally upright characters as Bill O'Reilly and tons of risque clips masquerading as news.

How come when a Christian female pop artist "shows her true colors", all hell breaks loose, but when a conservative news broadcaster gets caught in some similar scandal, no one says anything about it?

No one? How quickly you've forgotten the drama that surfaced over Bill's various immoral escapades.
He's gotten his 15 minutes of fame in the past just like Katy is now.

Yeah, I've heard her song on the radio a bunch of times. I can't stand it.

Her music is just like any other artist: she makes a 'hit', people love it, then eventually something new comes along. She'll be off the charts sometime soon. (I hope.)

Bill who?

Funny that people have forgotten another scandal involving a certain evangelical named Ted that appears to have been swept under the rug.

So much for Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

So I'm just wondering, what would make this wonderful, exemplary Christian in the CCM scene from several years ago turn the tables and do this salacious little ditty?

Ask the people of New Life Church in CO how quickly and easily they've forgotten the pain caused by Ted's extracurricular activities.

And as far as what caused Katy to make the choice that she has, is it really that difficult to see? To me, this life is pretty simple to figure out. Our choices are 'kingdom and righteousness' or 'other'.
She has chosen 'other'.

Uh, thanks. I was just having fun. I knew it wasn't any of the people I mentioned but I did forget his name. And it was pretty big news at the time just like this stuff is pretty big news, at the time. Lets hope its forgotten in six months and if she's forgotten along with it oh well.

But why did she choose "other"? Was there something that happened in her involvement in Christian music that caused her to think otherwise about continuing?

Good question. Lets extend it a little (or maybe its a different question, barely related), how about whether something happened in her church or among fellow Christians that may have caused this. I'm not saying it did but I suppose it could have. Maybe she has a close friend who is a lesbian and she saw instances where "the church" mistreated her, at least from her view. Thats not to say the church shouldn't speak out against sin but there are wrong ways to do that.

I'm not saying its right and I'm not trying to bash the church. But I think we as Christians need to analyze ourselves too instead of just saying "she must of sold out for the money" and leaving it at that.

Let me be clear: she is completely accountable for her actions, no matter what may have happened in her experience with fellow Christians. And we as Christians are completely responsible for our actions as well. Responsibility isn't a percentage game.
