I got the Choir's "Chase the Kangaroo" CD (from Amazon Marketplace). Insert was a bit worn but not bad, the case and CD looked about perfect, the CD played perfectly and it came in about a week. So again, if you want classic Christian CDs Amazon Marketplace may be an answer. Just go to Amazon's site like you normally would and search for what you want. The Marketplace options are on the same page as the regular product entry (saying "10 used and new from 9.99" - amounts obviously vary - clck on it and you'll see the different buying options).

I am waiting on the old stuff from Mylon Lefevre and broken Heart and The Imperials....oooh and DeGarmo and Key...

Mylon Lefevre

The Imperials

Degarmo & Key

Just be careful to make sure exactly what your getting if you choose to go this route (you don't want a cassette if you only have a CD player). Read the feedback on the seller and the description of the item. I opt for new whenever possible, even if I had to pay a few dollars more. The Degarmo & Key tends to be more available than Lefevre for whatever reason. The Imperials have ALOT of product.

While I agree with most of the folks here saying it all comes down to money (it will cost a lot to do it and the revenue might not be worth it), I still say Christian radio NEEDS to do a better job in promoting its own legacy.

There probably isn't enough revenue for a "Christian oldies" format to make it over broadcast radio but certainly they could still do an "80s lunch" or something similar as a way to acknowledge CCM's own history. Even the top 40 "jamming the same 20 songs every 2 hours" stations do that.

It comes down to the fact that the mainstream will NOT keep the music of artists like DeGarmo and Key, Larry Norman, Rez, Daniel Amos, Sweet Comfort Band, Prodigal, Servant, Children of the Day and others alive. If Christian radio and the CCM industry doesn't do it, no one will.

Another option is the emerging digital/HD radio format which should open up a bunch of possibilities for Christian radio to do smaller subgenres on "carrier" signals (multicasting).

It would cost next to nothing (after the initial equipment installation) to operate a DJ-less format running off MP3 computers in formats that wouldn't be cost-effective for Christian radio otherwise like:
Christian rap
Christian "oldies"/"Classic Christian rock"
Christian metal/hard rock
Christian R&B
Christian alt rock

The local Christian station here is going to launch a spanish language station on the HD format. It could certainly work for all the other formats you listed - good idea!

I've seen alot of more recent reissues with DC Talk, Amy Grant, Audio A, and others at Family last week...pretty much two albums on a CD!

I believe that their is enough "oldie" product out there to support the format if not at least an oldies lunch Gbrady has already mentioned.

I think that the first place that this could be tried at is in Nashville.

Sounds interesting. They did that with some Christian metal bands about 10 years ago as well but those too are OOP. Can't complain though, they got a shot.
