My last job, since it was a private school, wasn't obligated to pay for unemployment and stuff like that. Therefore I cannot file.

Argh. You're the second person I've met recently with that problem. It bugs me to no end - you may not be able to offer your employees much security, but providing basic unemployment insurance is not tremendously expensive.

The first person I met was employed by a church that had no problem paying their pastor (who was also a published author) over $100k. They could afford that but couldn't afford to pay unemployment insurance for the staff. It just frosts me. I'm still old school enough to think that you need to provide some basics for your people.

That is my situation as well. I also don't have health insurance, which is why I pray this ear thing is temporary....(I'm a church secretary.)

Hey All. Football practice is over, the groceries are got, the homework is done, the children are fed, bathed and in bed and now I'm too tired to post.

Jeannie, I hope your ear feels better in the morning.

BT, that's very good news. We'll keep praying.

Blue, it isn't you, ya know. People are just stupid. Say something in plain English and they hear Pig-Latin.

Am I caught up?

I just has a thought: wouldn't it be creepy if people did have eyes in the back of their heads?

You two are going to give me nightmares.

I used to picture my mom with eyes in the back of her head. Creeped me WAY out.

Oh I do. I do.

Gotta go to sleep now....

Oh, Blue, I got the 1st & 3rd Song of Albion books from the library. The 2nd one is still on interlibrary request. I hope it shows up soon.

Kath, I'm reading Time and Again. I think it was you who recommended it to Sharon-Marie. It is REALLY good.

Sorry. I wish folks would realize they have some responsibilities to others.

I'm convinced my mother really did.

Geez. I never realized how common this is. We're churches, for cryin' out loud and we don't provide for our own. I thought we were supposed to set an example.

But don't you know that if you work for a church, you shouldn't get compensation because that would make the church like a business and that isn't biblical. Besides, if you work for a church, you should sacrifice everything to do it because, well, you work for a church...

Oh so I've learned....

I should add that we do have insurance - of course, I think that's one reason there are only a few of us who are full-time...

Honestly, I LOVE what I do and that I can do that work for a church makes it so much better, but I really NEED the pay and insurance. I mean, if some day I marry someone RICH, I'd keep doing what I do where I am just to benefit the church for the glory of God. Being a secretary is my spiritual gift..........or so I think.

Yeah, my wife heard that a lot when she was in full time ministry. It always made me gag.

Don't let my current bad attitude influence you. I'm guessing I might be hypersensitive to the issue right now. Our church secretary used to have a 6 figure income and gave it up to do this. It really can be a cool job. She loves it.
