Well, here goes! I need a place to babble, and I think I've found it! No more clogging up other's PFYs with my crazy rantings. This way, if you don't want to read it, don't look!

All are welcome... only if you can stand my babbling, of course!

My first babble:

My need to vent inspired me to create a thread so I didn't post yet another long venting session in another thread. So... this lady at the hotel yesterday really bothered me. She came up to the desk and within about 10 seconds already made me feel about two inches tall with her look and tone of voice. Her entire demeanor was as if she was saying to me what a loser I was for working in a hotel and that she thought I was a bad employee.

She, obviously irritated, established that I was in charge of the breakfast room and informed me that the toasters were not working. Well, they had worked earlier. I knew that because I had used one. So I went in there, and she said the toasters wouldn't stay down. When she pushed the button down, it kept popping back up. I played with it for a minute, noticed the microwave was still on, and they were plugged into the same outlet. I figured it wasn't a breaker. I didn't know what to do. I hardly ever use a toaster, and I've never had any reason to have to troubleshoot one before.

When I admitted to her that I had no idea how to fix them, she was rude with me. She said, "Will you tell your manager he needs to get another one today?" I told her that yes, I would. (How stupid does she think I am that I couldn't have figured that one out?) The male with her gently said that toasters will do that if they don't have power. So I crawled under the table and checked the connections better. Sure enough, the power strip had shut itself off. I reset it, and the toasters worked. The lady was snarky about that, too.

When I mentioned the toasters and the power strip to my manager when he relieved me, he told me that they do that all the time because of the microwave. Nice of him to share that information previously.

Before I left the breakfast room, that lady asked me in that same belittling tone of voice if the pool was working and open yet. I told her that I thought it was. She said it wasn't working the day before. I told her that I didn't know and would have to check with my manager then. She was still rude. *sigh*

But here's the thing. No one tells anyone else anything over there, and everything is in a shambles. Literally - they are remodeling everything. My manager ....... (tries to think of a nice way to phrase this) ......... needs some work on his managing skills. Actually, he probably needs some work on his employment skills period. So they really don't tell me anything, and when I ask no one knows or will give me any kind of a straight answer. I gave up asking because it's more headache than it's worth, and you don't get any kind of solid answer. It's even worse because I'm on grave shift there (or was... tonight was my last night working graves there) and so I'm the only employee on property. I can't ask anyone if I have a question.

I really wanted to say to that lady to stop judging me because I was not some loser working part time at a hotel and going out partying who didn't care about my job. I have been working almost 24 hours a week at the hotel, in addition to working at least 42.5 hours a week at the police department dispatching. I work hard to pay my bills and to make it here. I am very intelligent and not knowing how to troubleshoot a toaster (that I didn't know had problems) doesn't negate that. It would really help if the people above me had any clue what was going on and would actually share that information.

It was really odd. That lady looked at me like I haven't been looked at / treated like since I left Wisconsin. Although there may have been days... that one really stuck out for some reason. I used to get looked at like that all the time, especially at church. That was one reason it was so difficult for me the first time I went back to Wisconsin and back to my old church. They all still looked at me like that, and I realized that the people down here don't look at me that way. They love me, and they don't judge me. They don't make me feel two inches tall and overly guilty about everything from my hair to my jeans to my job. It was weird to experience that again, and it threw me for a loop when this lady did that. It also surprised me how much it bugged me. My theory: she must be from the north. My other theory: I'm not going out of my way to help her with anything while she is there. Will I be nice and everything? Of course. But I won't bend over backwards if she needs something, that's for sure.

Oooooh! I made the first page! ((((((((((Boots))))))))))) I totally know what you are talking about. I hated customer service. People can be extremely rude and I'm afraid the lack of communication is a common problem is most jobs I have worked. My last job was terrible about it and it caused so many problems that could have been easily addressed or not even been a problem in the first place if folks just communicated.

My current job has some of the same issues.

BTW - Feel free to rant in my pfy anytime.

Aww, ty!

(((((((((((( Phosy ))))))))))))

Communication issues are terrible. Add that to the rumor mill involved with any kind of law enforcement and it's really bad.

On a similar and unrelated note, communication has been a problem at work lately. Our fire radio is interfering with police radio. So if anyone is talking on fire radio, nothing is understandable on police radio. We are all so scared that one of these times it's not going to be someone giving a drivers license number, it's going to be one of the guys saying they just got shot. We won't know the difference or even who it was on the radio most of the time.

Not good. One of our local pd's had terrible radios. One of their officers finally put in an anonymous complaint to L&I to force the admin to do something about it. There were several occasions where officers were unable to call for backup. No one was ever hurt - but it was only a matter of time.

I don't understand that at all. I think an officer's radio (whether in the jail or on the street) is one of their most important pieces of equipment. When I go into a tank filled with 30 felons alone and with no weapon, I darn well better have a radio that works well and every time!

Not silly at all! And boots, your paragraphing was great. My eyes glaze over when I see long posts with no-to-almost-no paragraphing. White space is our friend!

Oh my! I really do hope someone is looking into fixing that problem. It sounds terribly serious and dangerous to me.

Totally!!! I agree 100% with you!

As for how I'm doing...well, I'm pretty grumpy but that's okay. It seems everyone is giving me a wide berth.

I've had my iPod on all morning and pretty loud too. That means I'm tuning people out.

I'm also hormonal which doesn't help, or is the cause of the problem.

Either way, this day should be over soon!!! *dances*

Hi Boots! So, Babbling is good, right? I tend to babble more in person, but do my share in other people's PFY's too. And I intend to keep on doing so , thanks for one more place to do so... if ya don't mind that is.

Hey Pam, WWH2, Tink, Phosy, and Hsgma!!!

Kristin and Pam - I agree about the radios. It is very dangerous. Everyone is getting frustrated with them. The chief said he has asked the city council for 300,000 dollars to replace our radios. They are the oldest radios in this entire area.

Hsgma - feel free to babble here anytime! It's the least I can do since y'all listen to me!

Sooo... As much as I'm nervous about the expenses with moving and a higher rent and utilities, I'm so relieved in so many ways. My door has started acting up badly again. It was never working the way it should, nor easily. But now it's a whole lot worse again and even using my foot to push the door from the bottom is not working. I dread going in and out of the door because it is so difficult to open and close right now. It's the only door to my apartment. For a minute I actually considered using the window as that really might be easier.

I will be so glad to get to a place where things work.. doors open and close as they should, and the landlord is a good person.

I am getting three more teeth pulled tomorrow. I'm excited. As much as I dread it because I just don't want to deal with all that - the nervousness at the dentist and the act of getting them done (I'll spare the specifics), the gauze and medicine afterward.... I can't wait. My tooth is hurting so bad right now. I've been taking four advil every four hours or so just to try to function. The sooner they come out, the sooner the pain will stop. Getting four teeth pulled last time was actually quite a bit less painful than having them in.

Glad to hear you've found a better place to live! Having a good landlord really is wonderful - it's worth the extra rent!

Sorry to hear about the teeth though. Yuck!

Yikes Boots, the teeth thing sounds nasty! I am so lucky I have very hard teeth (not to mention my head ). I think I was almost 40 before I got my first cavity. Sure hope your dentist vist goes well and that you feel much better fast!

Urrgh. I just looked out my office window- it's going to rain. It is still cold too, so we'll probably get rain/snow mix. Yuck. I want 75*... sigh.

Hey phosy and hsmga!

That bites about the weather, hsgma. I really do miss the thunderstorms though. We had a bit of one last night, but not much of anything at all.

I'm actually tired. Got the teeth pulled today. Doin alright with that. He put stitches in this time. That's a bit different. Gonna get some sleep before Bible study in the mornin.

I hope they have improved oral stitches since I had them. Of course, that was more than 15 years ago so I'm sure they have, but I hated them. When they started to dissolve, they didn't do it all together...

Probly not a whole lot. He said they would likely come out on their own. That was good information so I won't freak if / when it happens. I got in again next week for a few minutes for him to check them and take them out if they haven't already come out. I imagine they will be interesting when they come out....
