St. Patrick's Day is an enchanted time - a day to begin transforming winter's dreams into summer's magic. ~Adrienne Cook

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
~Irish Blessing

Never iron a four-leaf clover, because you don't want to press your luck. ~Author Unknown

Oh, the music in the air!
An' the joy that's ivrywhere -
Shure, the whole blue vault of heaven is wan grand triumphal arch,
An' the earth below is gay
Wid its tender green th'-day,
Fur the whole world is Irish on the Seventeenth o' March!
~Thomas Augustin Daly

Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn. ~Quoted by Lewis Grizzard in Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I Love You

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens

I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden. ~Ruth Stout

The year's at the spring
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hillside's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven -
All's right with the world!
~Robert Browning

Wow, March does start in about 15 minutes here on the west coast USA. What happened to February?

Somebody stole it, right along with January.

We should post a list of birthdays every month !!!!

Hi all. I'm PMSing big time so if I post something grumpy you'll understand, right????

It's very gloomy here today, BUT the snow is starting to melt and that's a good thing. The squirrels are running around like crazy today.

Love the Irish quotes, Harvie.

I'm confused. I thought Molly's birthday was on the 17th, or is there another Molly I'm not aware of??

Exactly three months ago (December 1, to be exact), I embarked on a "healthy eating plan" in the hopes of getting my diabetes under better control and also to lose weight and get healthier. Since then, I've learned a lot about nutrition, a lot about fiber, a lot about vegetables, a lot about exercise, and a lot about myself. I also learned that fad diets and extreme dieting and ridiculous calorie restrictions weren't for me ~ I wanted to be able to eat real food three full meals a day, plus I wanted snacks, too. And I wanted to be able to go out to dinner once a week, too ... like ordinary people get to do. This is my first quarter "Report Card," if you will.

DIABETES REPORT: My blood sugars have been under much better control. My morning insulin has gone from 80 units down to 20 units ~ how's THAT for a significant improvement? And my dinnertime insulin has gone from 50-60 units down to 20 units, as well. I suppose if I could do math I could cheerfully point out how large a percentage decrease that is, but I was promised that there'd be no math involved with this report card, hee hee hee. I go for my next diabetes blood test (to check my A1c) in about a month, and that will help firmly quantify this improvement.

EXERCISE REPORT: When I first started this adventure, I wasn't doing any exercise. I decided to start slowly in January and managed to get my chubby butt on my chubby butt bike seat and biked 31 miles around my neighborhood. This really seemed to boost my spirits and my confidence and my energy levels. My goal at the beginning of February was to beat that 31 mile total ... and I think I accomplished that in the first week or two! Grand total of miles biked in February? 175 MILES! (And I biked 27 out of 28 days, rain or shine!)

WEIGHT LOSS REPORT: As of March 1, I've lost 52.2 pounds. Needless to say, I'm thrilled ~ and that puts me just over halfway to my 100-pound-lost goal. Of course, I know this takes time and effort and patience (plus a lot of biking), but I'm in this for the long haul. I want to be healthier. (happy sigh)

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. ~ Carl Bard

You are quite correct. I will turn (gasp!) 45 years old on March 17, St. Patrick's Day... which always sort of bugged everyone on my mom's side of the family since they're Scottish (and right off the boat from Scotland), and not Irish, lol!

So ... no worries, you have another 2.5 weeks to get my cards and presents in the mail! (grin)

The Olympics gobbled it up!

My hubby picked up a load of mushroom manure for my garden, so I'll be busy distributing that around my plants. That stuff is always smellier than I remember it being.

My boys were thrilled with Sunday's Hockey win! Close game.

Molly, I'm impressed with all your biking & healthy eating, etc. That's awesome.

Mmmmm.... guacamole! I can eat guacamole on Fridays (my cheat day) ... if we go out to a Mexican restaurant. But this week we're going out to an "Asian Fusion Bistro" (hahahahahaha.... which I'm pretty sure is a fancy name for "chinese restaurant.")

I've learned something today. If you lose 52.2 pounds and bike your butt off .... your shorts get too baggy and start falling off. This could be a problem. So .... I went online today and ordered some new shorts. (Yay! New clothes!)

So many foods sound good to me right now since I cannot eat much right now due to my wisdom teeth extraction (sorry if I talk about it too much). I feel like I need to go to a high quality buffet that serves everything.

That's a good problem to have, Harvie.

Ouch, Catherine. I remember having mine out. 'Nuff said.

((((Cinderella)))) I had all my wisdom teeth out at once a few years ago. It's no fun; I'll agree with you there! How are you recovering?

Wow Molly, those sound like great achievements to me! Congratulations! You should be very proud of the changes you've made. Getting new clothes is by far the best part of losing weight. I'd encourage you to start tracking your loss by tape measure too. When I lost a significant amount of weight, the "last five" were the hardest and longest; however, they were also the most significant in terms of size, probably because I was putting on muscle while losing fat. I think in the last three months I lost three pounds; however, I lost an inch each off my bust, waist and hips for each of those pounds. If I hadn't been measuring it would have been demoralizing; as it is, I was pleased as punch.

How sweet. I thought it would be cute to that when we start a new thread we can post our birthdays and make a list, but I didn't think about sending out cards.

I'll be 46 on the 31st !! I'm getting old like Harvie.
